I visited Alachua Sink in Paynes Prairie State Park many times over the years growing up in Gainesville. Before the boardwalks were installed, you could walk right down to the water, if you dared. One evening, the setting sun painted the live oaks on the rim of the sink a deep orange, spilling onto the water and bathing this large alligator in liquid amber.
