Taylor Slough drains into Florida Bay, delivering freshwater that has traveled 100 miles from Lake Okeechobee. Once a major estuary, Florida Bay is slowing turning more and more saline. After drainage and development schemes, the Bay only receives 1/3 of the water it historically received. Increases in salinity have greatly changed the ecological makeup and carrying capacity of this ecosystem.
