In the southern blue ridge escarpment of South Carolina, each spring, thousands of blue ghost fireflies light up and hover above the ground. The females are wingless and stay on top of the leaf litter. The males emit a constant light and hover over the ground looking for potential mates. This image is a composite of 20 30-second exposures made over the course of 20 minutes while I laid in my hammock.
